GAMES FOR POLITICALLY OR MORALLY CORRECT COUPLES – GAME 3: POLITICAL REVERSAL (PART 3)
He: “Yes, you are. If you respect my feelings, then you’ll give me equal treatment. And equality means that either you let me be on top every other time, or we lie side by side.”
She: “I can’t believe you’re saying this.”
He: “Well, I am.”
Obviously this conversation can go in many directions. The wife may be amused by it and try to dismiss it as silly. She may become upset. She may simply refuse to have sex altogether. The husband must persevere with this game, however, until she takes him seriously. And when that happens, they will at last have a meaningful discussion about their marriage, their sexuality, and the attitudes that have kept their relationship mechanical and dead.
Various things may come out during these discussions, such as competitive feelings by the wife that include a desire to vilify her husband; and conflicting feelings by the husband—fear, the desire for approval, anger, and the need to defy the wife. The wife may have memories of having been picked on by an older brother, or even molested as a child; the husband may have memories of being his mother’s little assistant, or of his father being a womanizer. They should not censor any thoughts that come to them. Saying everything is important, for it unlocks the door within the wall that has kept them rigidly apart sexually.
Continue playing until a sense of real communication and equality is restored.
